Drummers is a modest straw bale dwelling nestled in the farm land of east Essex. We took the project on at Stage 4, providing technical drawings, and collaborative landscaping design with the Client. The Client was keen to build the property using the split timber frame structure we have been developing for our straw bale buildings, and this was a driving factor in engaging Hawkland for the design and construction delivery. The 1.5 storey property looks out over the Client’s land, and wider landscape to provide beautiful views, and plenty light into the modest living, and sleeping spaces. The larger openings on the south side are protected by the overhanging roof and balcony to limit overheating.
